VOCATION  STORIES

"I have called you by name, you are mine."

                                                                                            Isaiah 43:7

CALLED.CHOSEN.CONSECRATED.

The call of God is an intimate experience. All Carmelite nuns have a unique story of how God called us by name, how we heard His voice and discerned His call, how we answered "YES," and how we embraced the call to a life of a profound, radical love in Carmel.

Why Enter a Monastery?

Why lock yourself and waste your life and your talents  in Carmel when the world has so many opportunities to offer?

From the perspective of the world, it's sheer foolishness! It's simply unreasonable!

But from someone who has experienced a spark of the Divine love, one who has found the "one thing necessary," JESUS, "the pearl of great price"...
Nothing is wasted! Nothing is Lost!

Our vocation is a call to a hidden life of love, unceasing prayer, and sacrifice for Jesus, our Spouse, in the service of the Church.

St. Therese never left Carmel but became Co-Patronness of the Missions with St. Francis Xavier, a Jesuit missionary.

In Carmel, as we unite our lives and our prayers with the life and prayers of our Lord, we  become apostles and missionaries of love, bearing abundant fruit for the Church.

Like lamps on a hill, we become beacons of hope to a pilgrim Church seeking for the face of God in a world marred by division, corruption and moral degradation.

To be a Discalced Carmelite nun. Unreasonable? Foolishness? Yes, for those who are spiritually blind.

But for those who have the eyes of Faith to See, life in Carmel is the beginning of eternity.

I challenge you, young ladies. Dare to be a fool for Christ! Dare to be unreasonably in love with Him. Dare to be a Discalced Carmelite nun!
